Badgers wrap up day one in Tallahassee
TALLAHASSEE, Fl. – Charles Dickens opens up his famous novel "A Tale of Two Cities" with a line that will live until the Earth sees its demise: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."
That motto surely held true for Wisconsin women’s tennis Friday as it competed in the FSU All-Conference Showdown in Tallahassee, Florida. In singles play, the Badgers did what Wisconsin sports does – straight up compete.
Sophomores Lexi Keberle and MaryAnn Rompf held down the front for UW, snagging victories while junior counterpart Christina Zordani also tallied a victory. Keberle defeated Tyseta Dimitrova of Florida, 6-4, 6-2.
Rompf defeated Ivona Alvaro of Tulane, 6-1, 6-1 and Zordani held down her match, defeating Monique Burton from Southern Miss, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles competition both Wisconsin teams advanced to the second round of competition with an opening round win from the duo of Anna Makarova and Keberle defeating a UCF pair, 6-2. On the other end, Pick and Rompf breezed to a win over a Furman duo, 6-0.
Wisconsin has adopted Ernie Banks infamous motto, "let’s play two" as in, let’s play two more days of competition. UW is back in action on Saturday at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Courts.
